Gravities all have 0.003 subtracted from my actual readings. I have tested with two hydrometers and both read my tap water at 1.002 to 1.004 consistently.

Preboil SG: 1.036

Original gravity: 1.055

Volume in Fermenter: 2.7 Gallons

Preboil gravity is after temperature correction for 158F on a hydrometer calibrated at 60F up to 1.039 and then subtract the .003 extra. Actual hydrometer reading was 1.018.

Mash process:

Added grains at 157F. Stirred initially and again after about 15 minutes. Added heat for 30 secs or less just to heat a bit then stirred - just enough to get the stove burner warm-ish.

Every 15-20 minutes I stirred and checked the temperature in several spots. Added heat one last time for just 30 secs to 1 minute when there was about 10 minutes left on 70 minute mash and temps reading about 144F. End temp was about 148F-150F. May have hit as high as 158 in hot spots after adding heat second time, but overall I think this was good since I stirred and checked several places. Overall mash temp was probably mostly 147-152 range. That's a bit lower than I was going for, but with consistently not hitting my final gravity in the past, hopefully this takes care of the problem. Overall, I messed with the mash temperature less than I frequently do in trying to correct for my poor insulation + weird readings on a full volume BIAB mash, instead trusting the calculators and those with more experience than me. Hopefully this turns out good.

I ended with a bit more wort than expected and at a barely higher gravity. I can probably adjust for better efficiency on the grain amounts if I can keep this consistent. I suspect the extra volume was just due to less evaporation because it's summer and very humid.
